Since 1996 SmartMotor has offered customised, compact, efficient, high torque electrical machines with integrated drives and controls based on our patented and awarded permanent magnet technology platform

SmartMotor offers customised, compact, highly efficient, high-torque electrical machines. The concept is based on patented permanent magnet (PM) technology with integrated drives and controls. Most machine designs are customised to specific applications, often operating in very harsh and demanding environments.

SmartMotor core technology is deployed within 3 main areas, renewable energy power generation, oil & gas and marine applications.

SmartMotor offers a flexible business model to meet our customers’ individual demands and requirements.

SmartMotor is a spin-off company from the Norwegian Technical University in Trondheim (NTNU) employing mainly postgraduate staff in areas such as electrical machinery, power and control electronics, cybernetics and composite materials.

Our customers include Rolls Royce Marine, Kongsberg Maritime, Badger Explorer, Atlantis Recourses Corporation, SWAY, Nautricity, Quiet Revolution, Norwegian Hard Rock Drilling.
