At SmartMotor we deploy state-of-the-art interactive design processes involving our customers at all stages. Together with the customer we establish cross-functional teams consisting of specialists within the fields of electromagnetic design, electro systems design, composites and mechanical structure design.
Throughout the design process, we leverage a set of tools, process definitions and information repositories that ensures high quality designs, efficient design processes and transparent information-sharing between all team members.
Our design processes are scalable and easily transferable to our customers and our partners’ own engineering teams. We have a flexible approach towards designing a tailored process interface based on each customer’s specific requirements.

Smart Quality Assuranse & Risk Management
By imposing stringent requirements on our management and employees, SmartMotor seeks to ensure that the work performed on behalf of our customers is of a high standard and is carried out in an ethical and environment-friendly manner. The company’s quality assurance work includes the establishment a quality system which complies with the requirements of ISO 9001:2008.
SmartTool is a calculation tool developed solely by SmartMotor AS. It employs a Matlab platform, a large number of analytic functions and the patented, compact SmartMotor machine design to estimate the parameters for new suggested machines.
SmartTool enables successful design meetings to be held due to its fast calculation time. The results of a specification change are illustrated within seconds, and customers can acquire a good understanding of the driving forces in machine design. Optimisation will further help in finding the very best machine for the application at hand.

Smart Gate Model
To ensure project delivery in accordance with agreed costs and timetables and the correct specification standards as per our QA targets, a state-of-the-art gated model has been deployed for all design and development processes.
The gate model formalises all process steps from initial sale to final customer handover and ensures that all activities and deliverables are in accordance with or set standards.
Smart Project Handbook
The Smart Project Handbook governs all design projects at SmartMotor. Our Handbook spans all aspects of how our gate model is deployed and defines project structures, documentation libraries, approval processes, final reports and technical documents. It also defines our standards on project revision and the transfer of experience and learning to our customers.
